This section takes a look at a legacy storage topology that worked for many years but is incapable of meeting today's high-availability system requirements. Before there was network storage, there was just plain old storage. Storage products were categorized by the computer platform they were designed for, such as IBM mainframe systems, Digital VAX systems, AS/400s, UNIX workstations and servers, PC servers and desktops, and Apple Macintosh computers.
