Chapter 23. Virtual Volumes (VVols)

Block storage has always had the disadvantage of lack of visibility into file systems on devices the storage arrays provide to various environments. This has prevented the implementation of features like native snapshots, linked clones, and many others in the VMware vSphere environment. To address this issue, VMware has developed a new storage integration and management framework, referred to as VMware Virtual Volumes, or VVols for short.
