People often ask me, “Can I mix different storage arrays in my vSphere environment?”

The short answer is “yes!” This chapter explains why and how.

vSphere 6, as well as earlier releases, support a maximum of 1024 paths to storage (refer to Chapter 7, “Multipathing and Failover”). This maximum number of paths is the combined paths to all devices presented to the ESXi 6 host from all storage arrays, including local storage and direct attached storage.
