Born in Ho Chi Minh City in 1967, Taryn Rose narrowly escaped Vietnam with her family three days before the fall of Saigon when she was just eight years old. In the midst of machine gun and artillery fire, she and her family boarded a plane that took them to Fort Smith, Arkansas. Eventually, the family moved to Southern California. After getting her undergraduate degree from the University of California at Irvine, she attended USC’s medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon. (Her father was also a physician.) But soon after finishing her residency, she decided to stop following in her father’s footsteps and to instead follow her own passion which did actually involve footsteps.
