Rank Individualism

Ranking individuals and paying them according to their ranking also needs questioning. The theory is that this will motivate people to want to be at the top. It is also a value statement that high performance comes from outstanding individual performance. The conventional wisdom is that if we do not nurture those outstanding individuals, they will not stay with us for long and performance overall will suffer. This faith in individualism is so deeply ingrained in the business perspective of American culture that it seems no amount of experience to the contrary can challenge it.
