16.4. WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED IN CHAPTER 16

  1. This chapter is used in the Improve and Control steps of the DMAIC process.

  2. Traditional control charts that use both an average chart and a sigma chart are somewhat confusing to operators. Since a relatively few are in use, the full potential of control charts has not been realized.

  3. Operators want to see specification limits on a control chart, which is not valid on a chart that reflects averages rather than individual readings.

  4. The simplified control chart shown in this chapter is intuitive to an operator and satisfies the above two concerns.

  5. Variables data and a computer system are needed for simplified control charts.
