15.2. WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED IN CHAPTER 15

  1. This chapter applies to the Improve step in the DMAIC process.

  2. Simplified DOEs can give valuable process knowledge.

  3. The benefit from any DOE often comes from the discipline of running a controlled test, rather than from the direct output of the DOE.

  4. It is important to limit the test variables to three or fewer. Use a fishbone diagram to assist in identifying the variables to be tested.

  5. The output goal to be optimized is limited to one.

  6. It may require two runs of the simplified DOE to optimize and verify.

  7. Everyone involved in a simplified DOE should spend close attention to detail, looking for any surprises.
