3.1. SIMPLIFIED QFD INSTRUCTIONS

The simplified QFD form is a way of quantifying design options, always measuring these options against customer needs. The first step in doing the simplified QFD form is to make a list of the customer needs. Then, put a value of from "1" to "5" on each need:

  • "5" is a critical or a safety need, a need that must be satisfied.

  • "4" is very important.

  • "3" is highly desirable.

  • "2" is a "nice to have."

  • "1" is "wanted if easy to do."

You can do a more elaborate rating system, but you will find you spend too much time assigning numbers! The customer needs and ratings are listed down the left side of the simplified QFD form.
