15.1. SIMPLIFIED DOE STEPS

Here are the steps to run an effective simplified DOE.

  1. Hold a meeting with a representative from every group familiar with the process. These people may include a process operator, engineer, quality representative, and even someone from a supplier and a customer. Have them develop the list of key process input variables (KPIVs) and prioritize them. Use the fishbone diagram, correlation check, and process flow diagram in this process. Pick no more than three variables to test. If, after running the first simplified DOE, you feel you may not have picked the critical three, have the same group reprioritize the variables and run another simplified DOE.
