12.4. INCIDENTAL STATISTICS TERMINOLOGY NOT USED IN ABOVE TESTS

You will not find the term null-hypothesis used in the above confidence tests, but it is inplied by the way the tests are done. Null -hypothesis is a term that is often used in statistics books to mean that your base assumption is that nothing (null) changed. (An analogy is someone being assumed innocent until proven guilty.)

This assumption is included in the above tests and it is the basis for the above Tip that the hypothesis tests never prove "sameness." (Again, just because a person is not proven guilty does not necessarily mean that he or she is innocent.) There is no need to add the complexity of the term "null -hypothesis" when the nature of the tests implies it.
