16.3. CONTROL CHARTS FOR KPIVs

If the knowledge of a process is such that the key process input variables (KPIVs) are known, then simplified control charts can be used on the input variables rather than on the output. If the KPIVs are known, then the specification on each KPIV would be established and a simplified control chart would be implemented on each input variable just as shown above for the output. This is a preferred way to control a process, but such detailed knowledge of the KPIVs is rare.
