Summary

This chapter introduced the fundamental concepts of hypothesis testing. You learned how to test for the difference in the proportions, means, and variances of two groups. In addition, the ANOVA testing method was developed to determine whether differences exist in the means of more than two groups. This ANOVA method will be extended in Chapter 8, “Design of Experiments,” to the more general situation in which several factors are being studied. In addition, you studied two nonparametric tests that you can use when the assumptions of the tests for the difference between the means of two independent populations and the one-way ANOVA have been violated.
