Appendix 6.2 Using JMP to Construct Confidence Intervals

Constructing the Confidence Interval Estimate for the Mean

To construct the confidence interval estimate of the mean time to process insurance applications illustrated in Figure 6.5 on page 103, open the INSURANCE-TIME.JMP data table. Select AnalyzeDistribution. Then do the following:

  1. Select Time. Click the Y, Columns button. Click the OK button. You will get a vertical histogram, a vertical outlier box-and-whisker plot, and descriptive statistics including a 95% confidence interval. To generate a confidence interval different from 95%, click the red triangle next to the Time variable. Select Confidence Interval and then select the desired level of confidence.
