Appendix 5.1 Using Minitab for Probability Distributions and Plots

Computing Binomial Probabilities

You can use Minitab to compute binomial probabilities. Referring to the example in Section 5.4 in which n = 3 and p = 0.9, you compute the binomial probabilities shown in Figure 5.2 on page 74 as follows:

  1. Enter 0 1 2 3 in the first four rows of column C1. Label column C1 Correct Orders.

  2. Select CalcProbability DistributionsBinomial.

  3. In the Binomial Distribution dialog box (see Figure A5.1), select the Probability option button. Enter 3 in the Number of trials: edit box and .9 in the Probability of success: edit box. Enter C1 or Correct Orders in the Input column: edit box. Click the OK button.
