Chapter 4. Capacitors
This chapter introduces the reader to capacitors and their use. The basic concept of conductive plates separated by an insulator is introduced. Symbols for the various capacitor types are shown, as well as a selection of the various bodies used to construct capacitors: radial, axial etc. Simple circuits are built, and measurements are taken in the circuit, to see how changes occur over time when capacitors are used. Graphs are given for readers to make their own measurements. An exponential law is discovered and verified by experiment. Capacitors are shown to store charge. The law Q=C×V is determined, where Q is charge, C is capacitance, and V is voltage. Capacitance is shown to be measured in units of farads.
