Chapter 1. The Very First Steps
The chapter is a basic introduction to electronics. It starts by looking at the basic tools readers will need (side-cutters, snipe-nose pliers, soldering iron). A section on electricity follows, showing electricity as electron flow (with an analogy to water flowing). Other vital ideas are covered. such as charge; potential difference; voltage. Ohm’s law is discussed and the standard Ohm’s law formula (V=I×R; I=V/R; R=V/I) is shown. Next, the fact that amps, volts, ohms are standard, they are often impractical amounts, requiring smaller amounts (milliamps, microamps; millivolts, microvolts) or larger (kilohms, megohms) depending on electronics requirements.
