Launching a business serving the public

If you’re running a shop, restaurant or other business, get ready for the general public! The key thing is to make sure that you have the following ready for your opening:

  • A float – the cash to give change to your customers. If you have lots of prices that end in 99p you’ll need a lot of 1p pieces; you’ll also need to be able to give change from a £20 note.
  • All the things you need to process credit cards, if applicable, and make sure you know how to use them!
  • A way of giving receipts to your customers – either from a till or you’ll need to get a carbon-copy receipt book from a stationers.
