Is it at all possible that you could get away without any staff in the early days? If there’s more than one of you starting the business this should be easier, but even if it’s just you it’s worth thinking about. Early on in the life of your business you’re going to have to work your backside off, doing every little job under the sun, but you’ll be keeping the expenses, and the risk, down.

In this book I’ll assume that this is what you will do – after all we are just starting small at this stage.

If you really, really need other people from the start, then perhaps friends and family could help out at first and you could have a plan to recruit people after six months or a year.
