Who are your customers?

It’s a good idea to develop a really strong picture of who your customers are. One way to do this is to create some fictional ‘personas’ that describe a typical section of your customer base. It’s best to try to create between three and five of these personas.

So, for each one:

  • Give them a name.
  • Give them a gender.
  • Give them an age.
  • See if you can find a representative picture on the internet so that you can put a face to the name.
  • Describe their lives/loves/hates/hobbies/values etc.
  • Describe what their needs are.

Be as imaginative as you like with this exercise. Really try to picture each person as if they were a friend of yours. In future you’ll even be able to refer to them in meetings – ‘What would Andy think of ...
