Understanding Spreadsheet Geography

Spreadsheets are made up of rows and columns. Each Calc spreadsheet contains 32,000 rows; rows are designated by a particular number starting with 1 and running in sequence to 32,000. The spreadsheet also contains 256 columns; columns are designated by letters of the alphabet starting with the letter A. When you reach Z, the next column is AA, then AB, and so on. The columns end with IV.

The intersection of a column and a row in your spreadsheet is termed a cell. Each cell has an address; the address is a combination of the column designation and the row number of the intersecting column and row that create the cell. For instance, the cell created by the intersection of column B and row 12 would be cell B12. ...
