This book grew out of my role as an educator. Teaching in the Wharton Executive MBA and Executive Education programs made it even more clear to me that real, transformational, challenging, risky, breakthrough change is critically important in today's world and ever more challenging to successfully accomplish. Due largely to rapid technological advances, the business world now moves faster than the world I entered years ago, and is increasingly globalized. The competitors have multiplied and the time frame has shrunk. Regulations and oversight grow more burdensome every day. Now more than ever, we need to understand how breakthrough change happens—and how incredibly hard it is.
