Symmetric encryption uses a single key to encrypt and decrypt data. Symmetric encryption algorithms are constant. The keys used to encrypt different sets of data are changed to avoid compromising security. For example, the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) always uses the same algorithms to encrypt and decrypt data, no matter how many times it’s used.
