Appendix A.

Most of the examples in this book use the sample database books; see “The Sample Database” in Chapter 2. To follow along with the examples, you’ll need to create books in your DBMS.

In this appendix, I’ll describe how to create books, build its tables, and populate those tables with data. All the files you’ll need are available for download at this book’s companion Web site, www.peachpit.com/vqs/sql. The files are compressed into a single zip file. To expand this file, use a free decompression utility such as WinZip (Windows; www.winzip.com), StuffIt (Mac OS; www.stuffit.com), or gunzip or unzip (Unix). After decompression, read the file readme.txt for a description of the distribution.
