If you’ve been working with SQL Server for a long time, as I have, you’ve seen Microsoft’s flagship relational database product go through many transformations and expansions. As Microsoft has developed new features and capabilities for SQL Server, the product has grown enormously in size and scope. For example, the entirety of SQL Server version 7.0 was as large, in terms of its code base and development team, as a single major component of SQL Server 2008, such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). Wow! That means with each major new addition of functionality, many of us have to decide whether we have the time and energy to invest in learning what’s new.
