RAID Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) is used to provide improved performance or storage fault tolerance. RAID 0 provides striping and improves drive performance. RAID 1 provides mirroring and improves fault tolerance. RAID 5 provides striping with parity and provides fault tolerance and sometimes a performance gain as well.
