9.3. Create Transformations Using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

SQL Server Integration Services provides nearly everything that you could want for any ETL process. It can be used to move data between SQL Server and a variety of sources or destinations. It can merge, mesh, and combine data from multiple and varied data sources. It can interpret fuzzy logic—for example, the use of the LIKE operator. It can be used to scrub and clean data and then provide extensive support for many business intelligence operations and environments. The broad range involved with SSIS has spawned many books, classes, and white papers. In this book the focus will be more narrow, concerned primarily with the fundamentals of data ETL processes.
