ace A shot that derives from a serve and is a winner.

ad court The left side of the court for each player.

advantage When a player wins the deuce point and is one point away from obtaining the game.

all Refers to the situation when players have the same number of points, games, or sets.

all-court player A player who can play from all positions on the court: baseline, transition, and/or the net.

alley The side area on the outside of the singles courts, used to play doubles.

alternate A player who is on wait-list and may replace another player in a tournament due to injury/withdrawal.
