This book grew out of lectures delivered to postgraduate students in physics at the universities of Roorkee, Roorkee and Panjab, Chandigarh since 1961. Special Theory of Relativity is primarily intended as a textbook for the physics and mathematics students at the B.Sc. level in the Indian universities. There has been resurgence in subjecting the postulates as well as predictions of special relativity to greater precision tests since 1959, and the book is an up-to-date exposition of the subject-matter.
