This appendix is not designed as a complete reference on the Registry. Most people know just enough about the Registry to be dangerous—myself included. I'm familiar enough with Outlook's Registry keys to change them whenever I need to do so. However, when it comes to other programs and other Registry values, caution is a critical practice.

If you want to learn more about the Windows Registry, there are several good books and Web sites you can use for more information. I recommend the following books on the Windows Registry:
