The Linking Modules

Web-related technologies now have almost an excess of linking technologies, including those in HTML and XHTML and the newer XLink and XPointer. So how does SMIL linking relate to these technologies?

Linking into a particular fragment of a SMIL document might be useful to allow access to a presentation from a particular time within the presentation. XPointer allows addressing of parts of an XML document without the need explicitly to add unique identifiers such as id attributes or named anchors. SMIL 2.0 allows support for XPointer, but does not require support for it.
