Repositories and Databases

The difference between a repository and a database is defined by the form and function of their business uses. A repository is often thought of as a collection of organized files, whereas a database is a collection of organized data in company-specific data format. However, there's quite a bit of flexibility in the definitions. In this section, we'll think of repositories as places where documents or document fragments are kept and maintained. Databases will provide storage and management for the underlying pieces.
