If some of the concepts we've explained seem unclear, it may be useful to review some of the earlier chapters.

A discussion of some basics, such as an XML document structure, schemas, and DTDs can be found in Chapter 1, “The XML Jigsaw Puzzle,” and Chapter 2, “The Basics of XML.”

Chapter 3, “XML Building Blocks: Elements and Attributes,” focuses more on elements and attributes, which are the most commonly used nodes in document trees.

Chapter 4, “Structuring XML Documents with DTDs,” and Chapter 5, “Defining XML Document Structures with XML Schemas,” will be useful to understand entities and notations.
