XSL As a Display Technology

The genesis of XSL is to provide a way for XML to be displayed properly in a variety of formats. Because XML files are simply text, they do not have the potential for the same range of dynamic display that is possible with HTML.

However, XSL enables XML authors to design stylesheets that are designed to work with XML, and to specify how the elements and attributes within their XML documents are to be displayed in the browser or on the printed page.
