IPSec

The TCP/IP family of protocols is used to transfer data over the Internet. However, unauthorized people can intercept the data packets in TCP/IP transmissions. The IP Security Architecture (IPSec) protocol suite was designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to overcome the security threats in TCP/IP networks.

IPSec is essentially a set of extensions to the IP protocol. IPSec supports authentication, integrity, access control, and confidentiality of data packets at the network layer.
