SSH

SSH (Secure Shell) is a tool that enables secure remote login over insecure networks. Unlike Telnet and rlogin, SSH provides an encrypted terminal session. SSH has a strong authentication mechanism for both the server and client that uses public-key cryptography.

Some of the key features of SSH include the following:

  • Provides different types of user authentication methods

  • Allows secure passage through firewalls

  • Allows secure file transfers

  • Forwards X Windows (X11) connections automatically

In the previous versions of Solaris, you needed to install SSH as a separate package. However, in Solaris 9, SSH is included within the operating environment.
