Federated Naming Service (FNS)

Federated Naming Service (FNS) is a naming service that provides a set of common names that can be used over different naming services. Using the FNS conventions, you can name organizations, machines, users, and network services. In addition, FNS extends support for other naming services, such as DNS, NIS, and NIS+.

FNS lists the various namespaces available, types of namespaces, structure of the namespaces, and the conventions followed by these namespaces. However, it does not specify the various names the naming services use.
