Planning the NIS Domain

Whether your network is large or small, you must plan the layout of your NIS domain before setting it up. The following recommendations are general tips that you can use while designing your NIS domain environment. You should tailor these tips to benefit your site requirements.

  • Determine the number of domains you need. This number depends on how complex your network is. If your network has some 1000-odd machines, you have a large network. In this case, it is advisable to have more than one NIS domain.
