Printer Administration Using lp Commands

Using the Print Manager to administer the Solaris print environment has certain limitations. For example, you cannot set certain printer definitions, such as fault recovery options or printer classes, with the Print Manager. When compared to the range of options provided by lp commands, you can see that Print Manager offers limited printer administration features. Typically, system administrators managing Solaris operating environments use lp commands for printer administration rather than Print Manager. lp commands are used for configuring printers, setting printer definitions, administering print requests, scheduling print jobs, and verifying printer status.
