Troubleshooting Modems and Terminals

This section describes troubleshooting tips to manage modem or terminal malfunctioning.

Some typical problems that usually occur with modems and terminals can be related to login failures, terminal problems, serial connection problems, and so on. The possible causes for login failures include the following factors:

  • Incorrect login credentials provided by the user.

  • Problems with the terminal, such as incorrect terminal configuration, being shut off, or having no power.

  • Serial cable is loose or unplugged.

To troubleshoot login problems, check the configuration of the terminal or the modem. Determine the relevant ttylabel to communicate with the modem or the terminal.
