The .NET environment consists of the .NET infrastructure and tools, .NET services, .NET device software, and the .NET user experience.

The Common Language Runtime (CLR) is the runtime environment provided by the .NET Framework. The Common Type System (CTS) provides an exhaustive list of types that are supported by the runtime.
