What Is .NET?

.NET is a Web initiative taken by Microsoft to bring a common infrastructure to developers, end users, and businesses alike. Earlier referred to as the Next Generation Windows Services (NGWS), .NET aims at changing the way applications are built and deployed over the Internet.

For developers, .NET provides a rich class library and the infrastructure and tools required to create cross-platform and cross-language applications. It supports most of the popularly used languages in the market today.
