SharePoint Portal Server provides a flexible environment for integration. In this chapter, we used HTML, ASP, VBScript, ADO, COM, XML, and XSL to access different storage systems. We showed how you can access relational databases and Active Directory hierarchical object-oriented databases to retrieve information. You might already have developed similar code and programs. Or maybe you have already invested in a mentioned skill set that you can now easily upgrade, and create your own Web Parts without starting from scratch and having to learn a totally new development tool.
