Customizing Quick Links, News, and Announcements Out-of-the-Box Web Parts
These three out-of-the-box Web Parts reside on the default home dashboard. They all share the same Web Part code—they just retrieve the content they display from a different location. This content is stored for each Web Part in a dedicated subfolder of the Portal Content Folder. This concept allows the Coordinator to assign dedicated people to author the information presented in the Web Parts. These people need to have the author role on the dedicated folder; they can modify the content shown in the Web Part without being a Coordinator.
