Summary

In this chapter, we discussed the requirements for a successful implementation of SharePoint Portal Server. We provided an overview of the prerequisites for the server and client prior to proceeding with the implementation. We discussed co-existence and what is supported by Microsoft. We talked about deployment planning considerations for server, client, and the network as well as proxy settings that should be planned for. Step-by-step installation instructions were provided for the server as well as the client, including information on unattended and scripted installations for both the server and client. Lastly, we discussed a series of the most common administrative tasks that are performed on a SharePoint Portal Server.
