The Case of the Nonexistent User

Q1:When I try to open a shared workbook, Excel tells me it's already in use, but I'm certain it's not true.
A1: Excel might report that another user has a workbook open even though this is no longer true; in fact, you might see your own name more than once in the list of users. This situation occurs most often after a system crashes while the workbook is open. In this circumstance, select the user's name and click the Remove User button. If you see your own name listed twice, one of the listings is correct. If Excel won't let you remove one of these entries, try the other one.
