Adding a Table to a Document

When creating a new table, you have two basic choices: Either Word can draw the table for you, or you can draw it yourself. When Word draws the table for you:

  • Rows start out one line tall, but automatically get taller, if necessary, to hold text or graphics.

If you can live with those two restrictions, Word will make your table quickly. In any other situation—if the table can only take up part of a page, or if you have complex cell patterns—you can draw your table freehand.
