Domain Name Service (DNS)

The Domain Name Service (DNS) is the phone book of the Internet. DNS is what gets you from xyz.com to 192.168.1.2. If you could only use numbers for Internet addresses, there are two things you could count on: The Internet wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is, and someone would shell out millions of dollars for the address 1.2.3.4.
