Self-Contained Components
The specification of JavaBeans adds to the Java platform the capability to create a complete application by linking together a set of self-contained components. Microsoft's Visual Basic and Borland's Delphi are both examples of applications that allow users to build full-blown applications by combining independent components. The success and popularity of these two applications alone speak volumes to the success of this style of application building.
