Important Considerations When Upgrading NT Domains

In the previous section, I made much of the fact that except for the need to protect your current NT domain investment, planning and implementing an Active Directory for an upgrade differs only slightly from a new install. Both should be approached with much planning and testing. However, some operational differences do exist, which are worth noting here. Most of these deal with the opportunity you have to restructure your domains before, during, and after the upgrade process.
