Troubleshooting

Booting Errors

Q1:When I boot the DC, I get an error message (#0xc00002e1) stating Active Directory cannot be started.
Check permissions on the ntds.dit and edb.log. Make sure the system and the administrator have full control. Use the ntdsutil/files/info command to ensure that AD thinks the files are where they really are.

Moving Files

Q1:I cannot move the files with the Explorer or the move command.
Unless the DC is booted to Active Directory restore mode, many of the files in \winnt\ntds are open files and therefore cannot be moved, renamed, or deleted. If you want to move the database to a new drive for whatever reason, reboot in Active Directory restore mode and use the move files command from ntdsutil.
